Outdoor First Aid course

There are two available. Outdoor First Aid and Outdoor First Aid Emergency Action

Please note that both courses are run as Group Bookings. If you are an individual looking for a place, do get in touch with us and we will put you on a waiting list and if a Group Booking is not full and the Client is happy we can offer the additional places out to you. We do not run public Outdoor First Aid courses due to the cost of settng up and the risk of not filling them. If you are an individual, check out our calendar for courses running.



Outdoor First Aid

Course duration:

Classroom: 16 hours (usually over 2 days)

Certification: Certified course, certificate valid for three years

Minimum age: 16 years

Ideal for anybody going to remote regions of the world. Developed with the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) for professional outdoor workers. It will maintain most outdoor National Governing Body (NGB) instructor licences such as Mountain Leader and British Canoe Union awards. It is also perfect for Duke of Edinburgh Award staff and participants.

Who is the ITC Outdoor First Aid qualification for?

This qualification is the ITC Level 3 Award In Outdoor First Aid in England and Wales and the ITC Certificate in Outdoor First Aid at SCQF Level 5 in Scotland. This is the qualification of choice for experienced outdoor professionals throughout the UK. This course is delivered over a minimum of 16 hours to comply with NGB requirements, typically over 2 full days. The course is designed to meet the needs of those working away from immediate medical assistance and is ideal for (MLTA) (ML) (WML) (MIA) (MIC) (IML) climbing instructors (SPA), ski instructors (BASI), mountain guides (BMG), canoe and kayak instructors (BCU), mountain bike instructors (MIAS), Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) leaders and participants, mine and cave leaders, field assistants.

It is also invaluable for anybody spending time in the outdoors and remote environment whether recreationally, voluntarily or work related.

This qualification is designed to meet the needs of those working away from immediate assistance (more than 30 mins) in the remote and rural regions of the UK. This Outdoor First Aid qualification is externally regulated and meets the standards to appear upon the national qualifications frameworks of England and Wales. This course is recognised throughout the UK and is the course of choice for experienced practitioners who use the outdoors.

Outdoor First Aid Emergency Action

Course duration:

Classroom: 8 hours (usually over 1 day)

Certification: Certified course, certificate valid for three years

Minimum age: 16 years

Suitable for low risk outdoor environments and working conditions that require some outdoor first aid skills, such as country park staff.

No previous first aid experience is required to attend this course however it is advised that candidates hold at least a valid 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.

What is the Outdoor First Aid Emergency Action for?

This one day (8 hour) Outdoor First Aid course is useful for individuals holding a valid First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work qualification. The course is designed for people who spend time in outdoor environments, as opposed to being predominantly urban and office based such as country park employees, field technicians, basic expedition leaders (BELA) or individuals involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) Scheme.

About this qualification

This course covers the essentials of managing immediate, potentially life threatening incidents in a systematic manner. It is ideal for anyone who may be required to take charge at an outdoor incident, where assistance may not be immediately available. This 1 day (8 hour) course is suitable for many outdoor instructor awards and National Governing Body requirements.
