When 4 Minutes can mean the difference between life and death, we are really pleased to be welcoming the CellAED® to the UK. It is the world’s first hand-held, personal, smart defibrillator.

At just 300g weight and small enough to hold in the palm of your hand, it can be slipped into a rucksack, suitcase or on the shelf next to your First Aid kit. To use it you simply snap it in half, peel the backing off and stick it to the patient. It does everything else for you.

Snap

Power the device by snapping in half along the perforated centre line. This will automatically start the audio instructions, guiding you on what to do, every step of the way.

Peel

Remove the protective liner under the device by continuing to separate the two halves. This will expose the integrated gel pads and extend the connecting cable.

Stick

Adults: place each half of the device on the bare chest (as shown).

Infants: place one half on the infant’s chest and the other half on the infant’s back

What difference can a CellAED® make?

Diagram of the Chain of survival - early calling 999, early CPR, early defibrillator and early ambulance arrival
The Chain of survival

A massive difference!

If someone’s heart stops in a Cardiac Arrest and all you do is dial 999 they have about a 1 in 10 chance of survival.

Decent early CPR bumps that up to 3 in 10

Decent early CPR AND early Defibrillation rockets that to about a 7 in 10 chance of survival. If you have a defibrillator to hand in those first few minutes….

CellAED® is designed to save lives from sudden cardiac arrest. An arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere, at any time. When sudden cardiac arrest happens, your heart stops pumping blood. Within seconds, people experiencing cardiac arrest fall unconscious. At that point, you have only minutes for someone to save your life. To save you, someone nearby needs to call emergency services, start CPR, and apply an automated external defibrillator (AED).

An AED can coach people to provide CPR and provide a small electrical shock to the heart to start it beating normally again. With CellAED®, you can ensure there is always an AED nearby to help save your life, or the life of someone you love, when sudden cardiac arrest happens.

Some techy stuff you might find interesting

  • Internet of Things (IoT) enabled. It has a built-in SIM. It self-tests regularly and if there is a problem it will report back. It knows where it is and if it has been used – and what happened when it was used.
  • It can deliver up to 20 shocks, which is at least 45 minutes of use in a CPR scenario (if it was able to shock every time)
  • Audio prompts tell you what to do, a metronome beat will pace you when you are carrying out CPR between shocks.
  • Single button press for use on an infant

Don’t forget that all our First Aid courses come with training on how to use a defibrillator. Whilst you absolutely do not need training to use any public defibrillator or the CellAED®, sometimes training will help you build confidence in using one and also First Aid in general. Talk to us about your training needs, or jump on to one of our public courses.
